One of our greatest treasures is to have healthy, radiant
skin. The driving force behind the growing trend in aesthetics
is our endless quest to attain healthy skin, for which we
go to great lengths and at times are disappointed with the
results.
The skin is the body’s largest eliminative organ after
the liver and is sometimes called the third kidney. Approximately
10 percent of body elimination occurs through the skin. It
eliminates two pounds of waste daily when it functions properly,
so its ability to excrete toxins is of utmost importance.
Our skin serves as the body’s frontline defense against
the environment. It supports the body by excreting toxins
that are associated with skin disorders—from serious
skin problems and acne to signs of premature aging and wrinkles.
Skin Care Resolutions- A daily routine
As we age our skin care requirements change and so must
our skin care protocol.
We should use a gentle cleansing milk that thoroughly removes
impurities without drying, followed by a toner that exfoliates
and balances the skin. Toners help the skin shed dry, dead
skin cells that accumulate on the surface and become roadblocks
to serums and creams. Toners also simultaneously moisturize
and rebalance the skin. Clients are sometimes hesitant to
continue to use a toner in the wintertime because they think
it will strip and dry their skin. However, an effective toner
actually balances the skin and keeps it at its ideal moisture
level while helping serums and creams perform their best,
as the skin is more able to absorb them.
Marine collagen, Elastin – combines with collagen
to fortify skin, improve moisture and elasticity and reduce
redness. Silk extract - stimulates the skin’s production
of hyaluronic acid, a component of connective tissues whose
function is to cushion and lubricate. Hyaluronic acid plays
an important role in how the skin looks, feels and functions
and is a major component of the connective tissues matrix
in the dermis. Your skin will benefit from its very nature
hyaluronic acid retains water like a sponge, absorbing more
than 1000 times its weight. This characteristic helps to
attract and maintain water within the extracellular space,
hydrating skin and increasing its volume and density. Hyaluronic
acid is also involved with the transport of essential nutrients
to the skin’s viable cell, providing volume.
Essential fatty acids are vital to every cell in the human
body yet cannot be made by the body, making it vital to incorporate
them into one’s skin regimen. Essential fatty acids
are particularly important as temperatures drop because
they have the ability to combat common skin conditions
such as dry, dehydrated skin and fine lines and wrinkles,
to more sever conditions such as eczema. We should seek out
serums, creams and masks containing a combination of
these important hydrating ingredients, among others.
